Ever been to New Orleans? Dats brings Louisiana cooking to the front door step of Btown. Specializing in southern Cajun cooking, everything is prepared homemade, and with a lot of love! You walk in and feel as though you are taking a step out of Bloomington. The atmosphere is all Louisiana themed, with most pictures on the wall relating to jazz in some way.
I am all about reliability and one of the reasons why Dat’s has built such a strong lasting foundation in Bloomington is because of it’s consistency. The food is absolutely amazing, as you truly can’t go wrong with any dish. The owner, Bob, makes all the food himself every single morning! The dedication that he has speaks volumes as he arrives every day at the restaurant before the crack of dawn (between 430-5am) to begin preparing all the dishes. I have tried numerous menu items from Dats, but by far my favorite is the Chili Cheese Etouffee with Crawfish. A blend of chili, cheese, rice, and a variety of spices, it might not be appealing to the eye, but my stomach begged to differ. Served with a piece of buttered bread for dipping purposes, the meal always leaves me very satisfied.
If you are a meat and potatoes kind of person, Dats probably isn’t the place for you. Most of the dishes are hot, but not overbearingly. You get a flavor out of every bite. If you are in a rush and only have a few minutes to grab a bite, you will be in and out of the door in ten minutes tops. The same old food gets boring after awhile, and if your trying to spice things up a bit, literally and figuratively, Dat’s is your spot.
