The name speaks for itself, Bubs Burgers and Ice Cream, Bloomington’s newest restaurant has come into Bloomington smoking, literally! I live two blocks away from the place and I came across it by seeing a ton of smoke rising through the air about two hundred feet away from my apartment. There is no better feeling than the combination of the crisp fall air with the aroma of burgers filling your senses as the grill is fired up. One of the best elk burgers that I have had in a long time, the meat is lean and grilled rather than cooked on the flat top, and the buns are toasted with a nice touch of butter. Their menu items all have very creative names. Examples are the “settle for less” and the “not so ugly” burger. Their hot wings are great, and I highly recommend the sweet potato waffle-fries, which come with an addicting marshmallow dipping sauce that melts in your mouth. The regular fries are a lot soggier than the crispy waffle fries, so definitely go with the latter. If you aren’t in a food coma after your lunch or dinner, the milkshakes will put you over the top. Best milkshake I have had in Bloomington, hands down! I know this is a very bold statement to make, but I stand by it with confidence.
The servers are very friendly, and the food is served within fifteen to twenty minutes. While waiting for your food there are trivia games to keep you occupied. At the front of the restaurant there are pictures on the wall of everybody that has won the “Big Ugly” challenge, which means finishing a 1 pound burger. I will definitely put Bubs on my rotation of restaurants to go to on a consistent basis. Great for all ages, and plan on leaving without having to eat for the rest of the day!
